I can't believe Christmas is almost upon us! It is always such an exciting time of year for me. I love that people get a little bit more giving and loving toward those around them. I'm so greatful for my Saviour Jesus Christ. For His life, His example and especially for His atonement for me and all mankind. What a blessing it is to me to have the knowledge of the Gospel! My heart is full of thanksgiving to Jesus Christ and to my Heavenly Father for the Love that they have for us. Merry Christmas to you all!

Zoo!

Sorry I'm behind on the blogging lately! I haven't posted about the neat zoo we went to over Thanksgiving! It is in Omaha, Nebraska and it is a really neat zoo. We really enjoyed going there with our neighbors over Thanksgiving. Alexis said she was "really in the Jungle" in the jungle pavillion. In the desert pavillion she said she was "really in the desert". She also enjoyed the butterfly pavillion with butterflies flying all around. The aquarium had fish swimming above our heads and penguins standing under a snow vent. We didn't get to see the whole zoo, but what we did see was really fun. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory restaurant and walked around the mall. It was just a perfect day. I will put some pictures up of the zoo for people to see.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here in Nebraska they have a "downtown stroll" down the old main street in the historic downtown. It was really fun to take Alexis. There were allot of people singing Christmas Carols from different churches dressed up in old "Charles Dickens" style clothing. Some of the business's had drawings to enter, and Christmas cookies. Others had homemade mints and hot cocoa! It was freezing but a beautiful night. I wish the pictures were better. Sorry! Our camera ran out of batteries. I kept turning it on to quickly take a picture. I was able to squeeze out a few but didn't have enough time for some nice photos. Alexis loved the horse drawn carriage and wagon rides. She was so excited when we were riding on the wagon she looked up at the horses shook her head in disbelief and said "I just can't believe it!" How precious! She also got excited that Santa's house is up and he's going to be visiting soon. She said "I want to tell him I want a makeup bag and a real Barbie Car to ride on."

For Thanksgiving we will be here having our first ever cook it all by ourselves dinner (with some neighbors making a few things too). I was just changing the temperature on the oven for the pumpkin pies. Yum! It smells great. I hope they taste good too! We are having one of our neighbors over from the branch. A bunch of people are gathering for pie. There is a Branch turkey bowl tomorrow morning. It is a pretty big deal with the Branch here. They have a contest between the two quorums. They even have a trophy and tally of ongoing scores. It has been fun to see all the Christmas lights going up and to hear actual Christmas music playing in all the stores. I guess with being a small town the "only holiday music" thing hasn't caught on here. I really love the Christmas season and Give Thanks unto our Heavenly Father for all of our blessings. New Bedroom Set

Alexis's new furniture. We found it at a used furniture mart downtown. It has been fun to fix it up and paint it. When I walked into the store I got all these ideas of what I could turn things into. I wish I could buy more furniture and had more room to store it so I could do some more fun projects. There is a buffet table that would make a really cute dresser. I liked the antique sewing desks, dressers, headboards, tables, etc. I saw a nice hutch that would make a cute toy shelf and an armoire that would be fun to turn into a sewing or craft storage cabinet.

Yes we are still alive!

Yes we made it here to Nebraska! We are liking it here alot so far. The people are really nice and the town is quiet and layed back. Theres a cute little restaurant downtown that serves great homemade pies. Lots of little antique shops to brouse. We also get donuts from a fun shop called Daylight Donuts evey once in awhile. We are adjusting well and enjoying the beautiful fall trees and old town architecture here.

Finally we have the internet and a phone! When we went to hook up our phone they said it would take 2 1/2 weeks then because our doorbell is broken I didn't here the 8:30 a.m. knocking from the cable man. I was so upset that I missed him I was all geared up to have a phone again and we hadn't talked to our families to even tell them how our new place was other than a quick email at the (silent) library with Alexis spinning in the spare computer chairs! "So do you just have one maintenance man?" I asked the cable people calmly while the lady explained we were going to have to wait till Nov. 4th till a maintenance worker could come again. I really was thinking "What?!" "Are you crazy we have been here month already without a phone!"
We feel like we've been on a mission sortof the last month. First with the once a week contact to our families on library day. Second with being in a small branch here. Third speaking at babtisms, Fourth welcoming several investigators to church each week, and Fifth feeding the missionaries alot. I'm also the 2nd counselor in the relief society presidency now and lead the music and play the piano for the mutual christmas caroling (even though I never took lessons!). It really has been great though. We are really liking the opportunities to help and serve more.

Cute story about Alexis today:

We were at a store I love to browse "the 2nd hand furniture store" looking for a headboard for Alexis's. Alexis was humming and singing differen't primary songs. Including I am a Child of God. It was really cute. We crossed the street to compare prices at a local furniture store for some nightstands. Alexis got louder with the singing "I love mudder she loves me I love daddy yes-sir-ee we are a happy family we are a happy family". She sang the whole time we were looking around the store. Where we were the only ones in there all the employees could here here sweet little voice. On the way up the stairs she was finishing the above line and the manager smiled and said, "You must have a happy family!"

Reflection, Job offer, Great Husband!

I was pondering during church today about trials and faith as I was reading from my church manuel. I am amazed at Joseph Smith, the trials he went through, his faith, his perserverence, his determination to serve Jesus Christ, etc. I am amazed at his wife Emma for her strength and endurance in faith amidst all the persecution they endured. This last year we have gone through some difficult trials. I don't want to go into a whole list or anything, but it's been a doozy of a year. I however had a bit of a reality check today reflecting on the life of the early saints and realizing as I often realize upon true meditation that my life really isn't all that difficult! In fact I feel truly blessed. (above picture is when we took a trip to Carthage Jail)

On a differen't note those of you wondering what we've been up to. Well you might have guessed-more camping! We headed up to the Uintah's once more this time with an air mattress and real food. It was great to sleep on a soft bed and to drive up to the camp site.

This past week Shaun got a job offer on a job in Nebraska! We are still working out all the details, but are moving toward accepting it. It will be another definite leap of faith for us. (most decisions are I guess).

My darling nephew turns 1 this week! Happy Birthday to Brigham!

I will be doing my sister-in-law's hair for homecoming. Yay! How fun!

Shaun has been cooking up a storm in his spare time. It has been awesome. Anyone who knows him knows he likes to keep busy. It has been driving him nuts to be waiting on all the companies to get back with us and the interview stuff. He has always enjoyed trying and learning new things. Lately he ahs been cooking up many delicious recipes. Namely:

Just want to say how greatful I am for my awesome husband and all that he does for me and for our little family. I am so greatful for him in my life and the joy he brings to me!

Backpacking: A Love Hate Relationship!

We just got back from our 3rd backpacking trip as a married couple. We headed up to the Uintah's with my brother, Uncle and Cousin. Backpacking and I sort of have a love hate relationship. I love the mountains, the solitude, the smell of the pines, the beautiful reflections off the lake, the challenge, the fire, the friendship, the fishing, and the stories. I dislike however the aches and pains, the cold, sleeping in a confined mummy bag, the last few hours of hiking in to camp with a heavy pack, the sore feet, etc.

All in all this last trip was one of my favorites. I was a little more prepared for what to expect and knew what to bring- or not to bring (the lighter the better). It was nice to have a well groomed trail and shade. It was pretty cold this year and we ran into a little snow in our camp but we didn't get rained or snowed on. The fishing was really good. My little brother taught me how to fly fish too. I really think mountain house dinners (ready to eat meals that you add water to) are very good. We especially liked the pasta primavera, chicken polynesian and rice, and the raspberry crumble desert. The scenery was awesome! Enjoy the slide show of some of our pictures!

3 Year Old Knock Knock Joke

I had to post a funny joke Alexis made up today! She asked my mom if she knew any jokes and then my mom asked Alexis if she would tell a joke.

Balloon Festival

Not much new going on around here. We've been having fun watching the Olympics and going to the Balloon Festival. I've been helping my mom to get ready for the new school year. (She is a kindergarten teacher). Shaun went out to Nebraska for yet another interview. It feels like our lives are kindof on hold right now playing the waiting game with companies. Sometimes it takes forever for them to consult. We are hoping for a full time position soon! The Balloon Festival was so much fun. We went at night and watched them light the balloons with an accompying live music band. It was beautiful! They were so colorful and there was a full moon. Lately I've been experimenting with digital scrapbooking it has been really fun!

Just another crazy busy week!

So it's been another crazy busy week. Shaun had a second interview with a company here in Utah and we are waiting to hear back hopefully by tommorrow especially because he is supposed to fly out to Nebraska for a second interview with another company this Thursday! This interview job stuff can be so stressfull! All in all we have been enjoying our summer and the fun times we are spending with family. We have been mountain biking quite a bit wich has been great excercise and great fun. We also had a family reunion for my family (maiden name Hurst).
It was really neat to see some old pictures and movies of my grandparents who passed away in 1999 a little over a month apart. I was able to go to a temple session with alot of my family members. . It was such a great feeling to be in the temple and think of my grandparents looking down and seeing their family in the temple together. We shared memories at a girls luncheon of my grandma shelling peas, cooking for family patio parties, and sewing. My grandparents mean so much to me and I feel very honored to be a part of their family. Other activities we've been up to are going to Roy Days, trimming trees, weeding, painting the garage door, painting the front doors to the house, mountain biking, sewing, and cooking. This week we have an Olympic party at my sisters house and another family party for my mom's side (The Winwards). Hopefully the next time I post we will have a new job!

Haircuts

I knew this would happen sooner or later! Alexis has recently trimmed a fake dog and her own hair! I am a hairdresser so of course Alexis sees me cut peoples hair and she loves to pretend to do the same. One morning a week or so ago I came upstairs to find a fake dog robot laying on it's side on a chair. Alexis ran over "look mom, I gave my dog a haircut!" She was so excited and proud of her work all I could do was smile at the tufts of "fur" laying on the tile. I explained as I have over and over that scissors are only for paper- and furthermore paper that mommy says you can cut. (We've had other incidents). I had to of course capture a photo of the pet groomer herself.

About a week later Alexis was supposedly going to sleep in her room it had been quiet for quite a while when I went to check on her and tuck her in for bed. Well, she had been to town with some scissors! I walked in the room and she hurredly jumped on her bed with an innocent smile and exlaimed "look i'm staying in my bed!" I wasn't fooled! I looked around the room surveying for damage as she started to say "down there by the bed can you pick up those for me?" "What is it you want me to pick up?" I asked. "Those scissors are on the floor, we better put them away they got left out we should clean them up!" Again I was not fooled with the excuse that they magically had "showed up" on the floor. Then I saw an orange feather boa that had been cut up feathers strewn across the carpet. I asked what she had been doing. She remained silent. I asked "have you been cutting with your scissors?" "Yes" she said with a downwards glance. I was trying not to smile but be firm and explaining once more why we can't use scissors without mommy. I went to tuck her in and she lifted up the covers and quietly with no words handed me a long strand of dark brown hair. I asked "did you cut your hair?" "Yes" she answered. "Show mommy where you cut it" she showed me and I was relieved she hadn't done any noticeable damage. I tucked her in and left the room and smiled at her mischievousness. She had gotten in a box and pulled out her art box that was packed away. She opened it and found the glorified kid scissors and being alone went to town with them! Needless to say I have put ALL the scissors out of reach.

Freedom

I just wanted to post on how greatful I am to live in America. I've been thinking alot lately about the beauty around me and how each day is such a gift. What a blessing it is to have freedom!

My Birthday, Father's Day

I'm finally posting about Father's Day! It was so fun this year because Alexis was old enough to really make Shaun a card. She stamped her feet and hands with paint and made him a book of stories. I also had her sing two of her made up songs about father's day.

For my birthday we had fun relaxing with family. We had a barbeque, played croquet, and had a yummy cake. It is my tradition to make a unique flavored cake every year. This year I made a lemon raspberry cream cake. MMm! it was so good! I actually beat Shaun in croquet too! My sister was visiting from St. George and it was really fun to hang out with her. We went down to Gardner's Mill with my mom and little sis. and had a girls day out. We ate at Archibalds restaurant and shoped around. We had fun walking around in the quilt shop and getting big sunglasses. So much fun!

Camping

We went up to North Fork and camped last weekend with my brother Mike and his wife Seve. It was really fun. Mike cooked all the food for us. We had hamburgers and blueberry pancakes. Alexis had a blast looking at the caterpillar nests. We also had fun having their dog Bob do tricks. It was a little chilly but not too bad. Alexis slept good after we finally got her to stay in her mummy bag. We all woke up at dawn to the loud chirping birds. Fun though! We love the mountains and have missed having them close like we do now that we are in Utah.

Summer Fun

The last couple of weeks seem to have flown by. We have been enjoying warm weather finally. Today we played in the pool with my cute sister and her darling baby Brigham. He loved it. He giggled and giggled! I went fishing with my bro last night. He caught 4 big brook trout up by the canyon in our "secret fishing hole". Alexis had her first big bike crash. She got going down a steep cement driveway and fell off her tricycle. She got her forehead scraped up but thank goodness she was ok! We saw Kung-Fu Panda at the theatre. It was really funny. We enjoyed it thoroughly. My birthday is coming up this weekend so Shaun went birthday shopping today. Of course he had to give me early presents. (it's a family joke). He gave me a new tennis racquet and a new fishing reel and lure. I'm excited to try them out. I went on my first mountain bike ride the other night too. It was just up and down the street, but at least it's a break-in. Tommorrow i'm heading down to Provo to help my sister look for apartments. It has been stressful still not having a job, but all in all we are enjoying being close to family. We love to spend time with them.

Birthdays, Train, Job Lead

June is a big month for my family. We have 3 birthdays. My cute little brother just turned 24 I can't believe it! They had a barbecue and we played Lasso Golf on the lawn. Alexis rode her tricycle around in the front yard pretending to be "the ice cream man" she would sing louder and louder as she drew closer to signal that you needed to buy ice cream from her. It was so cute! Then she would open the back trunk of her little trike and pull out a colored straw for you and tell you what flavor of popsicle it was.

Today is my Dad's birthday. We took the new "Frontrunner" train down to Salt Lake yesterday and went to Temple Square. It was so fun! I can't believe how smooth and fast it goes. We walked around at the museum and ate a hamburger and onion rings at Hires Big H. Shaun went on a bike ride and we are going to fix up my Dad and Mom's bikes' today. It is still a bit chilly and rainy but we are enjoying it because we know it will be hot soon.

Monday we look forward to calling on some job leads in the Utah area in Biological Engineering. We are keeping our fingers crossed. We would love to live in this area close to family. We love seeing them.

Memorial Weekend to Moving Weekend

We had a great weekend up at my brother in law's cabin for Memorial Day. (Pictures coming as soon as I get my computer hooked back up)We relaxed mostly taking a break from packing. We headed back to Idaho and packed up the rest of the apartment. Yesterday we moved to Utah. It is always so crazy to move but we are so greatful for all of our family and friends who came and helped. THANKS EVERYONE! We couldn't have done it without you. We are excited to be back around what we know call the "big mountains". We've lived in Utah our whole lives until recent and we are amazed at the beauty of this state. We love being back. We will miss all of our good friends in Twin Falls and plan to make it back for the temple open house. Shaun has been temporarily working on some detail paint work there. It will be such a blessing to see the way the temple blesses that area of Idaho.

Alexis becomes the Window Display!

Just wanted to tell a funny story. These kind of things happen daily! Alexis and I headed to the mall to get some boxes for moving and exchange some capris. She hadn't had a nap and anyone who knows her knows she always has energy which is multiplied ten fold when she's tired. The nursery leaders are always saying on days she is tired "She was a bit wound up today" I just laugh because i'm glad they dealt with it while I got to go to relief society! While we were in Aeropostale she climbed in one side of the window display and was running up and down in front of the manikins laughing and skipping and having a ball. When I tried to coax her out (it was like a tunnel) she would run to the other side. I finally got her out and explained we couldn't go in there and gave her timeout which to her is making her sit in the stroller for a while. In the moment it's always frustrating but later in the day I always look back and laugh! Good times!

Moving!

I haven't posted for awhile because we don't have the internet right now. We are getting ready to move back to Utah. We will be living with My mom and Dad till the job hunt serves us well. We are excited to spend the summer near family. As soon as we find a full time engineering job we will be moving again! It feels really surreal to be moving again so soon after thinking we were settled. Part of me is jumping at the chance for a new adventure on the other hand I feel so out of place with knowing where to go from here. The possibilities are many. We would like to stay close to family if possible. We'll keep in touch!

American Idol

We headed up to Logan and had and American Idol party at my Sister's House. It was really fun to hang out in my old hometown! I miss it!!! We went to the local seed and garden store and then went by one of my favorite decorating stores. I enjoyed walking around historic downtown and reminicing about our time spent living there. We watched American Idol and I got to hold my darling nephew alot. We still laugh that Alexis said her favorite was "David Enchilada" instead of "David Archeletta" she also likes "David Cook".

Alexis loves to dance and sing and has her own signiture moves we like to call "the men in black", "the long horn", "the travolta twist", and "hips". She definetely has a personality all her own. We think she got it from both sides of the family and ancestors that were very "animated". I love that she is so outgoing and has a bright personality. She has never been shy and whenever we drop her off at nursery she runs right in. We were at the park the other day and she yelled across the park to a little girl "I'm coming, I'm coming" after she had stopped to get a drink for a minute. She went up to a little boy at my mom's kindergarten class and proudly exlaimed "I'm Alexis" and put up her left hand with her signiture "longhorn" gesture. The boy just kindof looked at her. I laughed from a distance! What a cutie. We love being parents.

Today was a great day! Shaun passed the Fundementals of Engineering Exam! Yay!!!!! He graduated last year in Biological Engineering from Utah State but they wouldn't give him his official degree till today when the department called to say he'd passed the exam. This will make the job hunt a whole lot easier. We are so glad he doesn't have to take it again it is a gruiling 8 hour test! Hip Hip Hooray! We just relaxed today. We went fishing with Mike up Ogden Canyon. We had fish jumping all over, but didn't catch anything. Too bad- we'll have try another day. I laughed when I cast and almost slipped down the rocky slope into the resevoir. A couple of casts later the whole top half of my fishing pole came undone and flew 30 feet into the river! I was able to reel it back in and save it though. Mike was talking the whole way home about our next adventure. He is a true fisherman. I'm glad I have a younger brother who is so close in age (just two years younger). We have always been really close. It was relaxing to be up in the mountains. We saw 3 baby colts, some lambs, a few eagles, and several deer.

We headed up Weber Canyon to go fishing yesterday. We all had fun fishing along the bank of the dam. I even caught the biggest fish! Alexis had fun throwing rocks in the water (needless to say the people standing by her didn't catch many fish). We enjoyed spending time with family. What a fun family outing!
