Christmas Wrap Up

Just a post to wrap up our Christmas celebration. It was fun to have our own traditions as a family. Alexis was just old enough to really understand everything. We were able to just relax and enjoy having time we don't usually have with Shaun being off for a week and a half. He cooked gourmet meals and cleaned and played with the girls. We played games, went shopping, saw Princess and the Frog at the little Theatre in town, and laughed with one another. We got snowed in, we sang, we read and talked about Christ, and just enjoyed not traveling. I had a bit of the back to work blues because it was so nice to have Shaun home. For New Year's we let Alexis stay up and play games. We all went out and banged pots, something we always did with my family growing up. After we got in a sword fight with the wooden spoons. Good times! Today we started our new goal of exercising more. We went the the Ymca and I did a Latin Dance aerobics class called Zumba while Shaun shot hoops. We did some weight training afterward. Colbie was pretty excited about Christmas more than I thought she would be. She loved opening gifts she got so excited she fell asleep 3 times it took her all day to open her stuff!

When Alexis went to see Santa she just stared at his face and studied the inside of his house. I already told about how she thought she had been naughty this year in another post. She told us after that "I looked and looked and couldn't see Santa's mouth!" So that's what she was looking for!

Making up for missing Thanksgiving. Our neighbors got sick who were going to come so we called some other neighbors to come over. It was really nice. The food was delicious!

The snow storm got worse and worse. We almost were completely snowed in with drifts from the high winds. It still hasn't melted! I touched the roof yesterday with Alexis while playing in the snow with her.

It seems the year has passed so very quickly. I can't believe it's almost Christmas. Shaun and I will have been married 8 years this month! Where does the time go. Colbie is as cute as ever. She has started laughing at us. Her favorite is the duck sound. I love the baby giggles. I took Alexis to see Santa at his house downtown. She was so excited to tell him she wants a unicorn bicycle, a unicorn pony, a unicorn stuffed animal, and a unicorn makeup holder. He asked her if she has been good this year and she just rolled her eyes to the side and smiled but didn't say anything. I could tell it was because she was not wanting to lie to Santa but really thought she might have been bad this year! Of course she isn't actually on the bad list. What a sweetheart. Tonight we went and looked at Christmas lights then came back and had hot cocoa while playing Yahtzee. It was really fun to spend some time as a family and see that Alexis is able to participate in some of the family traditions that continue on. One fun family tradition my family does is a Christmas eve gift exchange we all tell each other why we love each other when giving our gifts. We also have a program where each family or person can plan whatever they want to do. This year Alexis and I are doing a synchronized tap dance to "just hear those sleigh bells jingling ring ting tingly too..." Harry Connick Jr.'s version. We made reindeer antler hats to wear. Colbie might do a little tap dancing too with Shaun's help. Since we are not traveling back home this year we will have to send the video of the performance. We will miss family but it will be nice to have our own little Christmas in our new home. This will be a first so we are excited. Wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Crazy Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving was pretty crazy. I have had the flu. I'm not sure if it has been the seasonal or H1N1 flu. All I know is that I have been deathly ill for the last 7 days and it continues! I can't talk my throat still hurts and my cough is still going strong. I'm glad I got a few hours sleep last night, I think that shows I'm on the mend! Shaun has been a trooper. We closed on our house on the 25th and he has been packing and watching the girls for me. I felt bad about not even being able to go to Thanksgiving dinner or spend time with Shaun much. Shaun brought some dinner home for me from our neighbors but I was really only able to eat the mushy stuff because of my throat. Hope next year I'm not this sick. I will definetely get the flu shots next year. We are really excited to move into our new house on Tuesday! It feels so surreal!

Laying the Floor

We decided to put in our own laminate flooring. It was fairly easy but we did run into a few bumps along the way. Next time we put one in (if there is a next time) we should know exactly how to do it. There were some nice guys from our Branch who helped us. One guy lent us his power tools and another guy came and helped us put in the floor. We were so greatful to have the help!Almost done Getting the dirt off and putting down cardboard to protect the floor while they finish the house. Yay! I love my new floor!
